In March 2006, my daughter Alex gave birth prematurely to her daughter Evie, she was born with a rare heart condition ‘truneus arteriorsus with interrupted aortic arch’. She was rushed to Birmingam Children’s Hospital where she had to have her first operation at just 8 days old. From that day with the companies I work with, we have raised £100,000 for the Hospital which funded the purchase of their first ‘Extra Corporeal’ life support machine. This machine replaces the function of the heart and lungs for severe cardiac illnesses. This was the first machine of its kind in the intensive care unit and it has already saved a great number of children’s lives in the UK to date.
