  • George leaves his dentistry degree at Birmingham University, to start his career as a buyer for Littlewoods

1972

  • Starts his own company, ‘SCHOOLCARE’

1975

  • Product and design director for Pippa Dee

1982

  • George launches the giant retail chain, ‘NEXT’

1984

  • Launch of Next for men

1985

  • Awarded Guardian Young Businessman of Year

1987

  • Awarded Wood Mackenzie Retailer of the Year
  • Awarded Fellow Society of Arts
  • Launch of Next childrenswear

1988

  • Awarded senior fellowship of The Royal College of Art
  • Awarded Marketing Personality of the Year
  • Launch of Next Directory
  • George leaves NEXT.

1989

  • Awarded Honorary DBA Liverpool Poly

1990

  • Launches the clothing label, ‘George at Asda’

1995

  • Launches S’porter

  • Awarded Honorary Doctorate of Design Nottingham Trent University

  • Launches Collection for Liverpool Football Club

2001

  • George launches his new fashion label Per Una exclusive to Marks & Spencer on September 28th

  • Per Una extended to Franchise Stores around the world
  • Launch Collezione Italia, a premium collection designed in Italy
  • Awarded Doctor of the University from Middlesex University

2003

  • Awarded Doctor of Letters from Heriot-Watt University
  • Awarded Drapers Record Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Society of Dyers and Colourists

2004

  • George launches Per Una due, the funky younger sister of Per Una
  • Voted Prima Magazine High Street Designer of The Decade
  • George launches Per Una beauty – Fragrance and Cosmetics
  • Awarded Blueprint ‘Designer behind the Brand’ National Portrait Gallery
  • Receives the Forum Award from TextilWirtschaft Magazine, Germany
  • Awarded Designer of the Decade

2005

  • George launches Per Una lingerie
  • Launches George Davies post graduate course in Retail in Marketing at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh
  • Awarded Doctorate in Civil Law, Northumbria University
  • George begins his support for the charity ‘Circulation Foundation’ previously known as ‘The Vascular Society’

2006

  • Awarded Honorary Degree – Doctor of Design, De Montfort University, Leicestershire
  • Awarded Honorary Professorship from Heriot-Watt
  • University in the School of Management and Languages
  • George supports the Birmingham Children’s Hospital
  • George becomes involved with ‘Mvumi School Trust’ in Tanzania

2007

  • George becomes a 2008 Ambassador to support Liverpool’s European Capital of Culture Celebrations in March
  • September- for the first time, the whole Per Una collection is available on-line
  • GD25 collection launches in September in specially selected Per Una stores for 25 days. A collection that was created to celebrate George’s 25 years as a retail fashion innovator.
  • October – George launches Per Una petites, available exclusively online
  • ‘Wounded for Us’ becomes a charity that George is involved with supporting wounded soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan
  • Exclusive Per Una Fashion show held in the Highland Centre, Edinburgh to support ‘Opening More Doors’ charity.

2008

  • George begins his support for the ‘Chitra Lane Children’s Resource Centre’ in Sri Lanka
  • George was honoured as a  ‘Member of the Vascular Society’, the first time a non-medic has received this honour
  • George supports the Conkers Charity

2009

  • George was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University at Birmingham University
  • GIVe brand launches stand-alone stores, concessions and website

2010

  • In May George announced the launch of his new venture ‘FG4’ –   launching Childrenswear stores with Fawaz Alhokair – the largest owner of shopping malls in Saudi Arabia.
  • ‘Drapers Record’ voted George the tenth most influential person in fashion
  • George supports Soham for Kids Charity

2011

  • George launches ‘FG4’ stores in the Middle-East, children and ladies fashion clothing
  • George launches GEM – a new Womenswear brand

2012

  • George was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration at Edgehill University, Ormskirk
  • FG4 Ladies fashion store opened in Georgia
  • George supports the Colorectal Cancer Charity

2013

  • FG4 Ladies fashion store opened in Morocco and Kazakhstan
  • George begins his support with Maggie’s Centre Charity

2014

  • FG4 fashion stores expanded into United Arab Emirates with the opening of 5 children’s stores and 1 ladies store
  • George supports The Teenage Cancer Trust
