In 2004 my Mother had serious vascular problems which necessitated her leg being amputated, during this difficult period I met one of the most inspirational, talented, down to earth, committed and outstanding person I have ever met – Sir Peter Bell, who was president of the Royal College of Surgeons, and who was later and deservedly Knighted.

Shortly after the GDCT worked closely with Peter to fund the necessary research into this disease and in May this year, Ian Franklin and 9 vascular Surgeons presented the research findings and updates from the winners of the Visionary award scholarship donated by the GDCT.
